Yung Brezzy talks new EP project “Life Lessons,” career and More!

Rapper Yung Brezzy was born in Montgomery, Alabama and raised in Selma, AL. At an early age, Yung Brezzy began showing an interest in music. He started playing the drums with the youth choir of his family’s church, honed in on that skill, and began to perfect it as if it was his purpose in life.  While in junior high, Yung Brezzy was introduced to rap and hip hop music and began to listen and study the ways of artists like 2Pac, LL Cool J, and Dr. Dre.  One day, a song by Pastor Troy started playing on the radio that caught his attention and Yung Brezzy began to flow to the song with his own lyrics.  At that point, his life changed and he gained a passion for hip hop.  Without the support he needed and being too young to do it himself, he pushed his talent to the side. When Brezzy got to high school, he continued to play sports and delve into music from time to time. Yung Brezzy would always clown around with his friends about wanting to be a rap star, but he really didn’t take his rap talent seriously and he focused more on school and sports. It wasn’t until one afternoon after football practice where he heard other players spitting rhymes that he felt the urge to show off his talent and ever since he had became known around the school for his talent. Around his junior year in high school, he began pondering over life decisions as he had no interest in the college life. Yung Brezzy put his music on hold and turned to the Marines for a better opportunity in life. After only being in the service for six months, he returned home for a visit and that night his life turned upside down.

In 2007, Yung Brezzy was a victim of a near-fatal car accident that almost cost him his life. He suffered from numerous amounts of life threatening injuries, but recovered fully. In the early parts of 2009, Brezzy was faced with a dramatic loss that sparked him to write the song “One Life to Live”. The song hinted at an emotional barrier he carried from the accident and the loss of his loved one. Suffering from a broken heart and lack of faith, he buried himself into his music writing songs like “Try Something Different” and “Wake Up”. The songs ventured around the actions of the world and how life was too short to pass up. The song “Try Something Different” was used in local high schools where he performed during different causes, like Breast Cancer Awareness and Drug Free Awareness.

Listen to “Life Lessons” here on spotify, press play!

Yung Brezzy is a dedicated member of the Breast Cancer Awareness and Drug Free Awareness with local schools of Alabama and a participant of the United Saints Recovery Project of New Orleans, Louisiana.

In early 2010, Yung Brezzy linked up with a local group hoping to make moves to greatness but the group never branched out to bigger or better things.  Yung Brezzy didn’t want to give up on his dreams so he struck out on his own to pursue his solo career. In the year 2014, Yung Brezzy released songs like “I Be Goin’ In” featuring Koree Rudolph and “Money Be Chasen.”

Yung Brezzy has been making major moves in the industry and one of his greatest accomplishments was being chosen as the headliner to perform after the speech of former President Barack Obama for the 50th annual Jubilee.

Yung Brezzy is currently pushing his single “What’s the Point of Having Friends” from his upcoming EP “Life Lessons”, with tracks from Cassius Jay, Exotic Music, and more available on all digital outlets.

This Day In Hip Hop -Ice T

Happy Birthday Ice-T

Written By @daniurbane

February 16th, 1958 – Today marks a day of celebration for a true Westside OG, Ice-T. He was born in Newark, NJ in 1958 and later moved to Los Angeles upon the traumatic deaths of his parents.

In the late 1980s, Ice-T released his debut album, Rhyme Pays. He would eventually collaborate with punk rock bands like Body Count and release a politically incorrect single such as “Cop Killer”. His controversial lyrics caused some static and made him a federal target, but to Ice-T he was simply telling the world about police brutality within LA.

During the growth of his career, Ice-T became an actor and officially stamped his career within the entertainment industry. Appearing in movies like New Jack City and securing a long run with Law in Order: SVU, he is known as a mogul.

Now he is married with children and giving back to his community to stop gang violence in his hometown of Los Angeles. Let’s show him some love and much deserved respect, happy birthday @icet !

1st Rap Group to Perform on National TV Goes to Funky Four + 1

Written By @daniurbane

FEBRURAY 14th, 1981 – Hip Hop started in the late 1970’s and changed the world drastically. Amongst some of the first rap groups was the Funky Four + 1. This group was known to be one of the first to feature a female rapper as their + 1 who is none other than Sha Rock.

There is much to debate about who was the first to do this or that within Hip Hop, and although many thought that Run DMC was the first rap group to perform on television, they’re wrong. Funky Four + 1 was invited as a special guest on Saturday Night Live by Deborah Harry, the lead singer of the punk group Blondie, who was also a close friend to the rap group.

The world was shaken when Hip Hop began to make its way across airwaves and television screens. Reaching millions of watchers, this was a pivotal moment that shifted the Culture. With their cool lyrics, syncopation, and style, the Funky Four + 1 made history as we know it.

Tupac Shakur Releases “All Eyez On Me”

Written By Dani Urbane

FEBRURAY 13th, 1996 – Thuggin’ for life, and if you right, then n**** die for it/Let them other brothers try, at least you tried for it/When it’s time to die, to be a man and pick the way you leave/Fuck peace and the police, my ambitions as a ridah

This day marked a historical moment in Hip Hop. Tupac Shakur a.k.a. Makaveli released his fourth studio album that many argue as a pure classic. He was a soldier who fought his own battles as a Black man while under the microscope of the world. Being born into a lineage of strong-willed, exceptional skilled, intelligent parents, Tupac Amaru Shakur was inevitably a threat.

His way of thinking put him ahead of his time. The way he unapologetically spoke his truth and the truth of our People is what sparked controversy. His undeniable compassion for women (even though some would beg to differ) is why he was a heartthrob. His lyricism made you feel as though you knew him personally. Tupac was transparent and transparency can build foundations, but also tear down its own structure.

Both a blessing and a curse, Tupac possessed the power of influence upon others: men, women, and children who looked up to him. Many wouldn’t categorize him as a role model, but who would argue with listening to a leader so true to his own self? Tupac was more than a gangsta rapper…he was a revolutionary leader. This is what put the fear of God into the Eyez of his, I mean our, oppressor.

Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother, declared him to be Tupac Amaru Shakur shortly after his coming into the world. That motion in itself stamped who he was, who he would become, and whom we would remember him as.

All Eyez On Me was a double album that released upon Tupac getting out of prison and months before his tragic and still unsolved death. He will be remembered as first a great man, revolutionary, and a gangsta rap artist…in that order.
