The music business continues to change but what changes most are the artists. Below are some the albums that shook the sound waves 20 years ago in November. What a time to be alive! Enjoy the trip down memory lane.

The Blueprint²: The Gift & the Curse

The Blueprint 2: The Gift and the Curse is the seventh studio album by American rapper Jay-Z. It was released on November 12, 2002, by Roc-A-Fella Records and Island Def Jam Music Group. The album serves as a sequel to his sixth album The Blueprint. It was the introduction into the speculation of Jay and Beyoncé, after their on-screen chemistry was undeniable. Check out ’03 Bonnie and Clyde below:

Under Construction

Under Construction is the fourth studio album by the American rapper Missy Elliott, released by The Goldmind Inc. and Elektra Records on November 12, 2002. The album was dedicated to Aaliyah, who had passed away just a few months before its release. The remix to “Work It” featuring 50 Cent got tons of spins on the radio and in the club, while “Gossip Folks” video played repeatedly on MTV and BET. The video had cameos from Eve, Tweet, Trina, Faizon Love,  DMC and of course Ludacris with homages to Left-Eye, Jam Master Jay and Aaliyah. Check out “Gossip Folks” below:

Quality

Quality is the debut studio album by American rapper Talib Kweli. The album was released on November 19, 2002, by Rawkus Records. It received wide critical acclaim and had some commercial appeal from the song “Get By”, produced by Kanye West, who also appeared in the video. Watch the video for “Get By” below:

Phrenology

Phrenology is the fifth studio album by American hip hop band The Roots, released on November 26, 2002, by MCA Records. Recording sessions for the album took place during June 2000 to September 2002 at Electric Lady Studios in New York. Neo Soul artists Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Talib Kweli appeared on the album but “Break You Off” will forever be a personal favorite. Check it out below:

It Ain’t Safe No More

It Ain’t Safe No More… is the sixth studio album by American rapper Busta Rhymes. The album was released on November 26, 2002, by Flipmode Records and J Records. While “Make It Clap” was the focal single, the remix featuring Sean Paul was sent to the radio stations and took over there and the club. The album for me proved that Busta Rhymes was a legend. My personal favorite with the Christmas Queen, “I Know What You Want” below:
